Why were Nazis bombing and fighting the people of Warsaw when retreating from Russia?

The people in the Warsaw rose up when they new the Soviets were close and Stalin knowing that these people weren't sympathetic to communism and potential rivals in a post-war communist Poland held back the Soviet army long enough for the Nazis to put down the uprising and kill all those involved.
