Have EBT cards been canceled?

Today me and my mom went to a supermarket and she tried to use her EBT card to pay for the purchase. We live in Southern California and the card and never been rejected until today. The cashier and bag boy both said that they will no longer be accepted anywhere. So, are EBT cards canceled? Why can I not find anything on the news about it?
